REACH OUT AND READ
Reach Out and Read is a national literacy program designed to take place in medical offices. Started in 1989 by the Boston City Hospital (now Boston Medical Center), the goal is to improve kindergarten readiness for children living in poverty. Reach Out and Read gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together.
Volunteers play an important role in the success of Read Out and Read.
