Open Door Family Medical Center is proud to announce it has been awarded an Education and Outreach Grant from the Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA) for 2024. This grant will bolster Open Door’s commitment to providing patient-centered breast health care and case management for underserved communities.
The BCA grant supports targeted outreach to women who are not up-to-date with breast cancer screening as well as education and breast health navigation services from screening through diagnostic resolution for underserved populations. These services include case management service for individuals newly diagnosed with breast cancer; supporting them throughout the treatment process and helping them navigate the healthcare system.
“We are deeply grateful to the Breast Cancer Alliance for their continued support,” said Karen Mandel of Open Door Family Medical Center. “This grant directly supports the work of our Patient Advocates and Navigators, a cornerstone of our commitment to comprehensive, patient-centered care. We’ve been fortunate to be a recipient of this grant for many years, allowing us to continually ensure that vulnerable communities access breast cancer screenings and receive support if they are diagnosed with cancer.”
Yonni Wattenmaker, Executive Director of Breast Cancer Alliance, emphasized the importance of such initiatives: “Our core mission is to improve survival rates and quality of life for those impacted by breast cancer through better prevention, early detection, treatment, and cure. Grantees like Open Door Family Medical Center play a crucial role in removing barriers to access for underserved patients.”
This grant aligns perfectly with Open Door’s vision for 2030, which includes serving over 80,000 patients annually and expanding high-quality, patient-centered, affordable healthcare services across Westchester, Dutchess, Putnam, and Ulster Counties.
